A concert celebrating the contributions of Black composers and performers to our American musical heritage.

Program: Spirituals, Jazz, Classical and Musical Theater songs, vocal ensembles and winners of the poetry contest. And we have a virtual guest ensemble: Exigence, a professional vocal ensemble, based in Detroit. The group came together to celebrate the creative energy and excellence of Black and Latinx artists, and the power of community and expression through choral music. Production services provided by Student Life at West Loop Campus.
Poetry Contest Guidelines
Theme: Family Representation, Identity, and Diversity
Poetry Information:
Up to 3 minutes in length
Performed by the poet
Respectful language
There will be monetary prizes awarded to the top three selections: $100, $75, and $50. The winners will be announced and videos of them performing their poems will be presented at our annual Black History Month through Arts celebration of March 11. Video entries of poets performing their works will be due by MARCH 5.
